KINBER Formalizes Partnership With TierPoint To Provide Technology Infrastructure Services

HARRISBURG, PA (August 24) – The Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER), a non-profit membership organization devoted to fostering collaboration through technology, announced a new strategic partnership today with TierPoint, a premier provider of cloud, colocation, disaster recovery, and managed services. The partnership is aimed at delivering enterprise-class technology infrastructure services across a non-profit membership base. This partnership will offer on-net disaster recovery/managed backup and various cloud solutions to organizations in Pennsylvania.

“By forming this partnership, KINBER will provide added value to its members in the research and education, healthcare, economic development, public media and library sectors by providing a broad range of best-in-class IT infrastructure services at affordable prices,” said Wendy Huntoon, KINBER president and CEO.

KINBER reviewed a list of identified services suggested by the membership in a 2015 survey and worked to find a partner to provide on-net services in the areas of colocation, disaster recovery/managed backup and various cloud solutions in direct response to member interests. On-net services are exchanged between organizations or between an organization and its satellite locations that are directly connected to KINBER’s next-generation broadband network, the Pennsylvania Research and Education Network, also known as PennREN. Since TierPoint is connected to PennREN, KINBER will be able to provide TierPoint services via PennREN at a relatively lower cost to its members.

“TierPoint is pleased to forge this exciting partnership with KINBER,” said Jim Stairiker, Regional Vice President. “This relationship allows TierPoint’s enterprise-class cloud platform, managed services, colocation and disaster recovery resources to be leveraged in a unique way for the non-profit community, and we’re looking forward to the opportunity KINBER’s partnership presents for technology collaboration in Pennsylvania and beyond.”

TierPoint owns and operates 39 data center facilities across the United States, including six in Pennsylvania. With approximatey 650,000 square-feet of space and a rich suite of managed services and disaster recovery options, the company has experienced strong demand for its service-oriented offerings over the last several years. With this partnership, KINBER will have access to TierPoint’s proven portfolio of resources to aid their member network in solving complex IT infrastructure challenges today and into the future.

The Keystone Initiative for Network Based Education and Research (KINBER) is Pennsylvania’s statewide research, education and community network. The non-profit membership organization is comprised of education, healthcare, economic development, libraries, public media, government and other non-profit organizations devoted to fostering collaboration through technology. Established in 2010 through a $99.6 million grant from the National Telecommunications and Information Administration, KINBER provides network connectivity and services to more than 80 organizations in Pennsylvania. KINBER is committed to delivering equitable, reliable and affordable digital infrastructure and tools to inspire tomorrow’s scientific discoveries, enable the exchange of ideas and culture among diverse populations, educate the next generation of citizens and revitalize Pennsylvania’s economy.
