KINBER runs several communities of practice that meet regularly during the year. As a member organization dedicated to fostering collaboration and community, KINBER working and advisory groups meet to provide input, guidance, and help shape KINBER’s strategic direction and service offerings. KINBER working groups and advisory committees also share best practices, build capacity and brain trust across the Commonwealth, and offer opportunities for networking and engagement across Pennsylvania’s community anchor institutions.

Collaborative Video Working Group

The Collaborative Video Working Group is an open working group with the goal of sharing best practices, proving input an direction on KINBER’s collaborative video services and pilot offerings and to explore the application of new video collaboration technologies. The Collaborative Video Working Group meets virtually each month during the year and holds an in-person meeting at the KINBERCON annual conference.

Cybersecurity Working Group

The Cybersecurity Working Group is an open working group with the goal of sharing best practices, fostering the growing need for cybersecurity expertise at organizations of all sizes, and to provide input and direction on KINBER’s cybersecurity services and pilot offerings. The Cybersecurity Working Group meets virtually each month during the year and holds an in-person meeting at the KINBERCON annual conference.

Esports Working Group

The Esports Working Group is an open working group with the goal of helping interested members of the community to better understand and identify available E-Sports resources for PA organizations;  identify and participate in new E-Sports pilots and services; share best practices and opportunities; help guide and provide input on KINBER’s long term strategy on E-Sports offerings and strategic partnerships for the KINBER community. The Esports Working Group meets virtually each month during the year and holds an in-person meeting at the KINBERCON annual conference

PennREN Technical User Group

The PennREN Technical User Group is comprised of all technical contacts at PennREN connected institutions. The PennREN Technical User Group meets monthly virtually to discuss network updates, announcements, new connections on PennREN, and learn about any new network service offerings.

In addition to KINBER’s working groups KINBER also convenes two advisory groups:

PennREN Technical Advisory Committee

The PennREN Technical Advisory Committee is by nomination and has the goal of providing strategic direction and guidance on PennREN engineering and network operational technical matters and future developments. The PennREN Technical Advisory Committee meets virtually 3-4 times per year and has an in-person meeting at the KINBERCON annual conference.

Research Engagement Advisory Committee

The Research Engagement Advisory Committee is by nomination and has the goal of providing strategic input and feedback on future research engagement activities both internally within KINBER as well as activities supported at KINBER member institutions. The Research Engagement Advisory Committee meets virtually 3-4 times per year and has an in-person meeting at the KINBERCON annual conference.
